Duncan-lecture

20th November – Thursday 06.00PM – Tom Duncan of Duncan McCauley. The Well, Floor 16, Arts Tower. SUAS Bar open from 05.30PM.  SUAS Members: FREE. Non-Members: £4.00

Tom Duncan and Noel McCauley joined forces in 2003 with the objective of exploring and exploiting the borders between architecture and film. This involves site-specific film and digital media productions that merge the boundaries of physical and implied space. The synthesis of architecture and film serves to create works that address the emotional sensibility of the observer and inspire personal interpretation. Their work explores the experiential, the tactile and narrative space. They have carried out projects involving exhibition, lighting and graphic design as well as various video installations.

MSA-lecture

13th November – Thursday 06.00PM – MSAMatt Springett. The Well, Floor 16, Arts Tower. SUAS Bar open from 05.30PM.  SUAS Members: FREE. Non-Members: £4.00

Formed in 2001, Matthew Springett’s practice is a reflection of his own preoccupation with being a designer and maker. Having studied at St Martins School of Art and The Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow, he graduated from Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, in 1998 winning the Bannister Fletcher Prize and the RIBA Silver Medal for that year. He has worked with Chris Wilkinson Architects and for Sir Nicholas Grimshaw and initially established his own practice with architect, Kirsteen Mackay, before re-forming as MSA in 2006.

Through its work MSA is redefining the role of the small, design-led practice in architecture. We believe that being small doesn’t stop us thinking big; nor does thinking big preclude our crafting fine, innovative, small buildings. We are passionate about how people live, where they work, socialise and study. We are preoccupied with what they are left with when the architects, engineers, planners and developers have pulled out; their quality of life as expressed by their built environment.

article25-lecture

6th November – Thursday 06.00PM – Article[25]Dr. Victoria Harris. The Well, Floor 16, Arts Tower. SUAS Bar open from 05.30PM.  SUAS Members: FREE. Non-Members: £4.00

Since forming in January 2006, Article 25 (then Architects for Aid) has provided more than just architecture. The skills of the professionals working on the projects come from across the built environment professions: engineers, surveyors, project managers and  others. To reflect the human rights ethos behind their work and this wider range of projects and skills, they have changed their name to Article 25.  This Thursday’s lecture will be an insight into the work by Article 25 and the Student Chapter initiative being launched at Sheffield this year.
